Nick Roetnor was a pilot flying to Hamilton County Hospital in Webster City, Iowa. He was to pick up and transport a cardiac patient to Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was killed when his helicopter dropped over 100 feet to the ground while attempting a landing at Hamilton County Hospital on March 3, 1980. The helicopter, which had flown to Webster City, Iowa, had aboard a flight nurse and a flight nurse trainee. There were no survivors.

Roetnor was en route to transport a cardiac patient to Methodist Medical Center. The helicopter was owned by Rocky Mountain Helicopters of Provo, Utah. The aircraft was thought to have stalled while landing.

Two daughters, Michele and Melissa; his father, Mike Roetnor; his brother, Jeff Roetnor; and his widow, Sheryl Roetnor Moss, survive Nick Roetnor, 29.
