Emergency Medical Service workers are well trained to cope with any situation they may encounter. They have a very unselfish attitude and think nothing of risking their lives for others.
John Buchner, 32, of Scranton, Pennsylvania, lost his life in the line of duty on November 4, 1981. Mr. Buchner was answering the emergency call of a 14-year-old girl who had jumped from a bridge. John had departed the ambulance and was crossing the road when a vehicle swerved around the stopped traffic and struck him. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Mr. Buchner worked for the City of Scranton Fire Department Ambulance of Scranton, Pennsylvania. John served the agency as a Lieutenant.
