National EMS Memorial Service Honoree

	Albert "Pappy" Benke, Jr. Chesapeake Beach Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department Virginia Beach, Virginia

Albert Benke, Jr. was affectionately known by his fellow crew members as "Pappy" during the twenty-four years he worked with the Chesapeake Beach Department. He held many positions within the Department, but was especially interested in the training aspect of emergency medical service.

On August 22, 1976, while working a twelve-hour shift with multiple calls, Pappy suffered a heart attack as he transported a patient to the hospital. Pappy remained in the Cardiac Care Unit two days before his death at the age of 76.
